Born and raised in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Matt Clayton has built an impressive culinary career across some of the region's most respected kitchens. After developing his passion for food at a young age, Matt honed his skills working at renowned establishments including Bramhalls and Callow Hall in the Derbyshire Dales. His career has also seen him take on roles at the acclaimed Fishers at Baslow, The Peacock at Rowsley, and Derby's Cathedral Quarter Hotel.
Matt's career highlights include cooking for Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Majesty King Charles III during the Royal Maundy Service while working at the Cathedral Quarter Hotel. The royal menu featured ham hock terrine, Derbyshire lamb, and one of the Queen's favourite desserts, rhubarb charlotte.
In 2016, Matt appeared on BBC One's MasterChef: The Professionals, gaining valuable experience on one of the UK's most prestigious culinary competitions. Reflecting on the experience, Matt says: "It was a great experience in my career. Things didn't work out as I would have hoped, but I was proud of my achievements, despite an earlier exit than I would have liked."
Today, Matt is the Head Chef and Owner of Leddy's, bringing together years of experience, creativity, and a passion for exceptional hospitality. The restaurant itself began as a light-hearted conversation between Matt and business partner Nick. "I can't put into words how excited and proud I am," says Matt. "It was a joke between Nick and I a couple of years ago that we could turn the carpet shop into a restaurant and have a glass floor looking down the cellar stairs.
At Leddy's, Matt combines modern British cooking with quality local ingredients, creating memorable dining experiences while remaining proud of his Derbyshire roots.
